Arrest of Additional Block Development Officer
Bhubaneswar: On Friday, Odisha Vigilance apprehended an additional block development officer (ABDO) following the discovery of assets that were significantly disproportionate to his declared income, which included a shopping complex, five plots of land, and bank deposits totaling Rs 70 lakh, according to an official report.
The vigilance teams initiated raids at seven different locations across the districts of Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, and Khurda after receiving tips about the officer's suspicious wealth.
Notably, Bhubaneswar, the state capital, is situated in Khurda district.
During the operation, officials uncovered four multi-storey buildings, including a shopping complex, a flat, five valuable land plots, 800 grams of gold, fixed and savings deposits amounting to Rs 70 lakh, and Rs 1.85 lakh in cash.
Moreover, two two-wheelers and household goods worth over Rs 3.27 lakh were confiscated during the investigation.
After a thorough search and inventory assessment, it was revealed that the officer's assets were approximately 205% greater than what could be justified by his known income sources, as stated by the official.
A formal case has been filed against the officer at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station, leading to his official arrest.
