Actor Janki Bodiwala, who starred in both the Gujarati horror film 'Vash' and its Hindi remake 'Shaitaan', recently shared a surprising behind-the-scenes moment from the original film. The actor opened up about a bold suggestion made by 'Vash' director Krishnadev Yagnik while preparing for one of the film’s most intense scenes.
Director asked Janki to pee for real
During a roundtable conversation with Filmfare, Janki recalled a particular moment in the film when her character Aarya, who is under demonic possession, urinates out of fear to prevent her father from escalating a dangerous situation. During early workshops for the scene, the director made a rather unconventional request. “I did the Gujarati version, and I had the same scene to perform there. While we were doing workshops, the director, he’s a very good person. He asked me, can you just do it for real? The pee scene. It will make a big impact. And I was so happy about it. Like, whoa! Being an actor, I’m getting a chance to do it on screen. Something that no one has ever done,” she shared.
What happened during the shot
However, the logistics of actually filming the scene as envisioned proved too challenging once they got on set. Janki explained that while she was initially thrilled by the raw realism the scene offered, it was ultimately reworked due to technical and artistic constraints. “But later, it didn’t happen because of art thing and it would have taken many retakes. It wouldn’t have been possible practically on set. So we found a way of doing that. I was happy I get to do things I can’t in real life. And that scene is like literally the favourite scene. And because of that scene, I said yes to that film,” she added.
About Vash and Shaitaan
'Vash' starred Hitu Kanodia, Niilam Paanchal, and Hiten Kumar in key roles, while its Hindi counterpart 'Shaitaan' featured Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and R Madhavan. Both films revolve around a family trapped in their own home, manipulated by a mysterious intruder who gains control over the daughter—played by Janki in both versions. The intense psychological horror and Janki’s performance were widely praised, with this particular scene standing out as a turning point in the narrative.
