The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have a good chance of winning the title this year, according to former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina. He also noted that Virat Kohli may finally be able to lift the elusive IPL trophy, as the team is playing very differently this season than in previous seasons.
Bengaluru is only one win away from guaranteeing their spot in the playoffs, having only lost three of their previous eleven games.
According to Raina, there are clear indications that Bengaluru can contend in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
Since Royal Challengers Bengaluru is participating in a separate league this season, there are good odds. “Their bowling unit has stepped up, and they’ve defended scores like 150 and 136 at Chinnaswamy,” Raina said on Star Sports.
“The fact that the new skipper has defeated the Chennai Super Kings twice—once at home and once in Chennai—speaks for itself. These are indications of a squad that can win, and the atmosphere in the dressing room is encouraging,” Raina said.
The most recent time Kohli came close to winning the IPL was in 2016, when he was also captaining the squad.
Thousands of supporters were devastated as Bengaluru fell to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on that particular day.
“Yes, the Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians are all performing well, but it may be Virat’s year to win the trophy after 18 years,” Raina said.
IPL 2025, which has been halted by the current border tensions between India and Pakistan, will continue on Saturday, May 17. Bengaluru will play the Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-stakes match, with Kohli, who just retired from Test cricket, taking center stage.
Bengaluru and Kolkata now have distinct objectives to accomplish and shared obstacles to overcome as a result of the unplanned 10-day gap.
“Millions have been inspired by your enthusiasm and leadership in Test cricket, brother! Regards and love, buddy @imVkohli,” Raina had said on Twitter on Monday.
Bengaluru, who have 16 points from 11 games and are currently in second place, can advance to the playoffs with a home win against Kolkata.
