
PM Kusum Yojana 2025 scheme has been started with the aim of giving the benefits of solar energy to the farmers and using their barren land for solar energy production. This not only reduces the cost of energy to the farmers but can also increase their income by selling excess electricity.
PM Kusum Yojana is an ambitious initiative of the Government of India. In which the aim of the government is to empower the farmers and increase their income along with explaining the importance of solar energy to them. This scheme was started in the year 2019. In which clean energy is provided to the farmers through solar power plants, solar pumps, grid-connected solar systems.
Extension of PM Kusum Yojana
The scheme has been extended till March 2026.
The implementation of this scheme was delayed due to the COVID-19 epidemic, due to which it has been extended till March 2026. The scheme has been launched with the aim of giving the benefits of solar energy to farmers and using their barren land for solar energy production. This not only reduces the cost of energy to the farmers but can also increase their income by selling excess electricity.
Major three components of PM Kusum Yojana
Component A: Installation of 10,000 MW decentralized solar power plants.
Component B: Installation of 20 lakh stand-alone solar pumps.
Component C: Solarization of 15 lakh grid-connected solar pumps.
Latest figures related to PM Kusum Yojana 2025
Till this year, PM Kusum Yojana has achieved many major achievements. Such as
1. So far, more than 1000 MW solar power generation capacity has been achieved under the scheme, especially in states like Rajasthan.
2. Under the PM Kusum Yojana, a target has been set to set up solar plants of 2000 MW capacity in Madhya Pradesh.
3. Under this scheme, lakhs of farmers across the country have installed solar pumps. In which a target of 600 solar pump plants has been set for 2024-25 only in Barmer district of Rajasthan.
4. The central government has set a target of providing the benefit of this scheme to 35 lakh farmers across the country by 2025.
How much subsidy and financial assistance is available in PM Kusum Yojana
Up to 60% subsidy (30% by the Center and 30% by the State Government) is being provided on solar pump and plant installation. Apart from this, 30% of the cost is given in the form of bank loan. That is, only 10% of the cost has to be borne by the farmers.
The government is also giving an additional subsidy of Rs 45000 per plant to the Scheduled Caste / Tribe farmers in many states.

1. Farmers taking advantage of this scheme are getting free or low-cost electricity for irrigation, which is saving their diesel and electricity.
2. If farmers want, they can earn by selling additional solar energy grid.
3. If farmers have uncultivated or barren land, then they can earn by installing solar panels on it. Solar panels are installed at a height so that there is no hindrance in farming.
4. This scheme is also necessary for environmental protection.
Eligibility for PM Kusum Yojana
For this scheme, farmers should have ownership of agricultural land or barren land. Farmers can apply for the scheme through Panchayat group, cooperative societies, Kissan group or water user association.
