On May 18, an official Indian delegation, consisting of Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, would go to Vatican City to attend Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration ceremony.
According to authorities, the Indian delegation’s attendance at this significant international religious gathering demonstrates India’s strong commitment to interfaith dialogue, intercommunal respect, and diplomatic relations with the Holy See.
In addition to wishing Pope Leo XIV well, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to furthering common ideals via ongoing communication and engagement with the Holy See.
He pointed out that the Catholic Church is under Pope Leo XIV’s guidance at a pivotal time in the advancement of the values of service, peace, harmony, and solidarity.
“I express the heartfelt congratulations and best wishes of the Indian people to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X. His appointment as head of the Catholic Church comes at a critical juncture in the promotion of the values of service, solidarity, peace, and harmony. India is still dedicated to maintaining communication and cooperation with the Holy See in order to further our common ideals.
On May 8, Pope Leo, who was born Robert Prevost in Chicago, was chosen as the first Pope to be born in the United States. Many Catholics across the Americas were both astonished and happy by this news.
