The filing of a formal complaint against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha of Bihar, sparked demonstrations throughout the country on Saturday by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).
The group called the FIR against Rahul Gandhi and NSUI President Varun Choudhary unfair and politically motivated for supporting disadvantaged people, and denounced the BJP-JDU-RSS combination as anti-Dalit, anti-OBC, and anti-minority.
Outside the BJP headquarters, NSUI activists set fire to a symbolic RSS half-pant during the demonstration.
“By preventing Rahul Gandhi from meeting Dalit students and filing a formal complaint against him and myself, we are exposing the true nature of the BJP-JDU-RSS, which is anti-Dalit, anti-OBC, and anti-minority,” NSUI President Varun Choudhary told reporters. However, these strategies won’t stop us. We will continue to speak up for the rights of students across and step up our fight.
The student organization connected with the Congress called for the FIRs to be immediately withdrawn and denounced them.
“We will not back down in the face of intimidation, and we stand united with Dalit students and all marginalized communities,” Choudhary said.
Notably, Rahul Gandhi was charged by the Darbhanga district government on Thursday with organizing a function at the Ambedkar Hostel without the required authorization. Shortly after Gandhi departed Darbhanga for Patna, the complaint was filed.
The FIR, which was filed at the Laheriasarai police station under many Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions, also identified eighteen other people.
