Playing NYT Connections

To play, you will receive a grid filled with words, and your task is to identify the connections among them. Consider synonyms, antonyms, and word families to solve the puzzle. If you encounter difficulties, hints are available within the game. You can also monitor your daily streak and overall progress, and challenge friends or other players to see who can solve the most puzzles.

A new puzzle is released daily at midnight, accessible via the NYT website or app. Your objective is to organize 16 words into four groups of four based on their connections. Categories can include clickable items, names of research participants, or words associated with body parts.

Each puzzle has a single solution, so be cautious of words that may fit into multiple categories. You can rearrange words to discover their connections.

The groups are color-coded, with yellow typically being the easiest, blue and green in the middle, and purple often containing wordplay.

Select four words you believe are related and click the ‘Submit’ button. Incorrect guesses will cost you a life. If you're close to forming a correct group, a message may indicate that you're just one word away from success, but you'll still need to decide which word to swap. Making four mistakes results in game over.
