Arrest of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra
Jyoti Malhotra, a travel blogger and YouTuber from Haryana, has been detained for allegedly transmitting sensitive information to operatives in Pakistan. She is one of six individuals arrested in connection with this case. Authorities report that Jyoti traveled to Pakistan in 2023 after obtaining a visa through intermediaries.
During her visit, she reportedly formed a close relationship with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, who works at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. Danish is said to have introduced her to several Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) and has since been declared persona non grata and expelled from India on May 13, 2025.
Jyoti faces charges under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act of 1923.
It is alleged that she communicated with these operatives via WhatsApp, Telegram, and Snapchat, sharing sensitive information about various locations in India. Authorities also claim that she was in a romantic relationship with a PIO and utilized her social media platforms to promote a favorable image of Pakistan.
With over 132,000 followers on Instagram, Jyoti shares her travel experiences, including a recent post about her trip to Pakistan shortly before the Pahalgam terror attack. Her YouTube channel, 'Travel with Jo,' boasts more than 300,000 subscribers.
This incident occurs amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
On May 7, in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 Indians, Operation Sindoor was initiated. Reports indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi closely monitored the operation throughout the night, leading to the successful targeting of nine locations. The Indian forces aimed to eliminate key leaders from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) who were implicated in orchestrating terrorist activities in India.
