Rain played spoilsport on Saturday night (May 17), washing out the 58th match of IPL 2025 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. As a result, KKR are no officially out of IPL 2025 playoff race.

KKR has now joined CSK, SRH and RR as the fourth team to exit the tournament. With just a handful of league matches left, the playoff battle is down to six teams: RCB, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants.

RCB now sit at the top of the points table with 17 points from 12 matches. Despite leading the race, they haven't officially qualified yet. If either Punjab Kings or Delhi Capitals lose their respective matches on Sunday (May 18), RCB will become the first team to seal a spot in the playoffs.

Gujarat, currently second with 16 points from 11 matches, face Delhi Capitals today. A win would take them to 18 points, guaranteeing qualification.

PBKS are third on the table with 15 points from 11 games. A win against Rajasthan Royals today would take them to 17 points and all but secure a playoff berth. With two more games left, they are also in the running for a top-two spot.

Mumbai has 14 points and two matches to go. Winning both would take them to 18 points and all but confirm qualification. However, a single loss could leave them at 16 points, where qualification may depend on net run rate and other results.

DC have 13 points from 11 games and need to win at least two of their remaining three matches to stay in contention. Their upcoming matches are tough - against Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings. The clash against MI is especially crucial.

LSG are still alive mathematically, but their chances are slim. With 10 points from 11 matches, they must win all three of their remaining games to reach 16 points. They’ll also need to significantly boost their net run rate and hope for favorable results from other matches.
