The excitement of IPL 2025 has returned, but Team India is also gearing up for a major assignment - a five-match Test series against England starting June 20 at Headingley. The Indian squad for the tour was initially set to be announced on May 23, but the Board of Control for Cricket n India (BCCI) has once again postponed the decision, with the announcement now expected by the end of May.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the delay is largely due to the ongoing IPL 2025 season, which has recently resumed. The BCCI is still finalizing details regarding the playoffs, including venues and scheduling, which has occupied the board's focus.
Another significant reason is the selection of the India ‘A’ team, which was announced on Friday. Also, the board is facing major decisions - including naming replacements for retired Test veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and appointing a new Test captain. These are complex calls that require careful deliberation.
The Indian team will depart for England on June 6. All players, except for Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill - who are part of the India ‘A’ squad - will travel together. Both players are slated to participate in a practice match against England Lions starting June 6 in Northampton. Head coach Gautam Gambhir will also accompany the squad on the tour.
There are speculations that either Bumrah of Shubman Gill will be appointed as India captain for England tour.
