In connection with the attempted murder of local resident Abdul Hameed near Akkarangadi in Panemangalore, the police have launched a high-level investigation to swiftly crack the case. As per police sources, four special teams have been formed under the leadership of Bantwal DySP to trace the culprits.
The incident occurred near the old bridge at the Akkarangadi bus stand, where Hameed was reportedly talking on the phone beside a nearby canteen. A group of masked assailants arrived on a motorbike and attacked him with a sword before fleeing the scene. Preliminary reports suggest the attackers targeted his neck, but Hameed raised his hand in defense, resulting in a serious injury to his left arm.
According to a police complaint filed by Yasir Arafath, a canteen worker and relative of the victim, the attack happened around 7:45 PM on May 16. He stated that two unidentified individuals approached on a bike and struck Hameed with a sword before escaping. Hameed sustained injuries to his left hand and was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru, where he underwent surgery. Doctors have expressed concern about possible long-term damage to his fingers.
The incident is currently under investigation by Bantwal Town Police. Investigators suspect the motive could be linked to an old personal enmity or internal conflict within the same community. However, police are refraining from making any definitive statements until the investigation is complete.
Authorities are also questioning individuals who were in contact with Hameed prior to the attack. Surveillance and tracking efforts are underway to determine the attackers’ escape route. Initial clues indicate that the assault may have stemmed from ongoing rivalry between groups.
Dakshina Kannada SP Yatheesh N. visited the crime scene on Saturday to review the situation. He held detailed discussions with Bantwal DySP and Town Inspector Ananthapadmanabha, offering guidance to expedite the investigation.
