
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The heart of India is experiencing extreme heat and humidity, alongside precipitation and strong winds in the month of May. This weather, induced by 3 active cyclonic circulations, is expected to continue till May 21.
Weathermen say, heatwaves will blow during the day, while nights will also remain unusually warm. Alongside this, precipitation is expected in many parts of the state, including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur.
Weather expected on Sunday
Heatwave alerts have been issued for Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Guna, and Ashoknagar. Nights may feel warmer in Sidhi and Umaria.
On the other hand, light rain and strong winds are expected in Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Harda, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat.

What do meteorologists say?
IMD Bhopal’s senior weather scientists explained that three cyclonic systems are currently active, which are affecting Madhya Pradesh. Because of this, storms and rainfall are occurring alongside rising temperatures. This pattern will continue for the next four days.
Typically, May is the hottest month in Madhya Pradesh, with temperatures reaching up to 47–48°C in the past decade. This year, however, the weather has been unusual. The first half of May saw heavy rain, thunderstorms, and even hail. Similar conditions will continue for a few more days, after which the heat is expected to rise significantly in the second half of the month.

Weather expected in next 2 days
May 19: Heatwave conditions will continue in the same areas, along with Shivpuri, Niwari, and Tikamgarh. Rain and strong wind alerts have been issued for Bhopal, Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, Chhindwara, Betul, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Vidisha, Harda, Sehore, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Dewas, Rajgarh, Agar-Malwa, Indore, Ujjain, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, and Ratlam.
May 20: Heatwave alerts will remain for Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Guna, and Ashoknagar. Rain is likely in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, Khargone, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Dewas, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Harda, Sehore, Betul, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Vidisha, Rewa, Sidhi, and Singrauli.
Temperature records
On Saturday, Madhya Pradesh experienced contrasting weather conditions. While some areas saw rain and strong winds, others faced intense heat. Rain was recorded in Betul (17 mm) and also in Naugaon, Sidhi, Vidisha, Singrauli, and Guna. Whereas, the hottest places were Khajuraho (44.4°C) and Naugaon (44°C), both in Chhatarpur.
Temperature recorded in state’s major cities were as follows: Gwalior - 44.2°C, Jabalpur - 41.2°C, Bhopal - 40.8°C, Ujjain - 39.5°C, Indore - 38.2°C and Pachmarhi remained the coolest with 33.2°C.
