New Delhi: Former India batter Suresh Raina believes Virat Kohli should be honoured with Bharat Ratna for his invaluable contribution to Indian cricket. On May 12 Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket just before the squad announcement for the upcoming England tour. Following Rohit Sharmas retirement announcement Virat Kohli confirmed his own departure from Test cricket on social media last Monday. Sharmas career concluded with 9230 runs and 30 centuries in 123 Test matches making him Indias fourth highest Test run scorer. During a Star Sports interview at the Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2025 home game against the Kolkata Knight Riders Suresh Raina suggested that Virat Kohli deserves the Bharat Ratna award for his significant contributions to Indian cricket both as a player and captain. I feel the Indian government should award him the Bharat Ratna because he has achieved so many things for India he said. Sachin Tendulkar is the youngest and only sportsperson to receive Indias highest civilian award the Bharat Ratna which he was granted in 2014 at age 40. A former Indian cricketer suggested the BCCI discuss with Virat Kohli the possibility of a farewell match for him in Delhi his hometown believing he deserves such an honor. I also feel he should be given a retirement match in Delhi. His family and coach would have been there to support him. After doing so much for the country you communicate with him because he deserves a retirement match he added. A significant number of fans many wearing Indias Test whites attended the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday to show their support for Virat Kohli. Every single one of us loves you Virat Kohli. Thank you for making Red Ball cricket exciting again -- read a huge banner unfurled by fans near the Roger Binny Stand. Heavy rain forced the cancellation of RCBs IPL match against the defending champions but Chinnaswamy Stadium still saw a significant display of support for Virat Kohli who was honored for his contributions to the game.
