Striat Remarks of the Supreme Court: India is not a Dharamshala, cannot give shelter to every refugee ‘

News India Live, Digital Desk: Striat Remarks of the Supreme Court: Taking a tough stand on the issue of refugees, the Supreme Court on Monday said that India is not a Dharamshala. There is no valid reason for shelter to people coming from all over the world. Why India should give shelter to such people… The Supreme Court clarified that India is already struggling with 140 crore people. It is not possible to provide shelter to the refugees coming from everywhere. The Supreme Court made this remark while hearing a petition seeking asylum for refugees.

Justice Dipankar Dutta made a huge comment, refusing to intervene in the custody of Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka. The lawyer of the Sri Lankan petitioner told the Supreme Court that he is a Sri Lankan Tamil who came here on a visa. His life is in danger in his own country. The petitioner has been detained for nearly three years without any exile.

Not everyone can live here
On this, Justice Dutta asked, ‘What do you have the right to live here?’ The lawyer reiterated that the petitioner is a refugee. To this, Justice Dutta said, “India is not a country where refugees from all over the world come and live.”

There are 140 crore people here alone.
The Supreme Court asked the petitioner, should India give shelter to refugees coming from all over the world? We are fighting with 1.4 billion people. This is not a Dharamshala. We cannot give shelter to refugees coming from everywhere. Earlier, former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said during a hearing that the presence of refugees could pose a threat to national security and the step was necessary in view of India’s limited resources. The court also said that India has already given shelter to many refugees, but now this is not possible.
