The newly inaugurated Dakshina Kannada District Administration Complex ‘Praja Soudha’ at Padil officially commenced functioning from Saturday. However, full-scale public service operations across all departments are expected to begin only after four to five days, due to ongoing setup and infrastructural work.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the complex on Friday, opening it for public services. Key offices including those of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), and various other departments are housed in this state-of-the-art complex.

Infrastructure Still in Progress
When the Udayavani Sudina team visited the premises, several offices such as the District Disaster Management Unit were still installing essential furniture and fittings like cupboards. Staff members confirmed that telephone connectivity and computer systems were yet to be established in multiple departments.

Even the offices of the DC and ADC were still undergoing IT setup. Interestingly, the Assistant Commissioner of the Religious Endowment Department had completed all preparations and commenced operations following a formal ritual.

Several other departments are still in the process of relocating, with ongoing work related to interior design and layout adjustments.

Green Touch for a Grand Look
A garden is being developed in front of the complex. Plans include planting grass, flowering plants, and shrubs, which will enhance the aesthetic appeal. Additionally, small shade-giving trees may be planted to offer comfort in the outdoor areas.

Demand for Direct Bus Connectivity
While Padil is now easily accessible from Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady, and Bantwal, people from areas such as Ullal, Mulki, and Moodbidri may face commuting difficulties, as they would need to change two buses to reach the new complex.

For instance, travelers from Ullal need to reach Pumpwell first and board another bus to Padil. Similarly, those from Mulki and Moodbidri must travel to the city center or alight at Bikarnakatte and then reach Padil via Maroli. However, direct bus services to Padil from places like Mangaladevi, Morgan’s Gate, Tannirbhavi, Surathkal, and Nanthur are lacking. Citizens are demanding better direct public transport routes for easier access.

What’s Operational and What’s Pending?
Pending: Installation of computers and equipment in several departments
Pending: Server connections in specific offices
Pending: Outdoor bench seating for the public
Operational: Spacious parking for both cars and two-wheelers
According to Dr. Santosh Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner:

“Many departments have already relocated to Praja Soudha. The remaining offices have been instructed to complete their move within a month after establishing necessary facilities. Departments that are already set up are finalizing supporting infrastructure and preparing to serve the public efficiently.”

The Praja Soudha complex marks a significant step in decentralizing government services and promises better accessibility and modern amenities for the citizens of Dakshina Kannada—once the full transition is complete.
