For over 25 years, Dattaray and Madhavi Goilkar have immersed themselves in the world of art, nurturing it not only as a personal passion but also as a medium for community empowerment. Their institution, Samarthkala Mahavidyalayla, is a testament to their commitment. Today, it stands tall with 11,400 students honing their craft across diverse artistic disciplines-an extraordinary milestone in the field of creative education.

Their latest exhibition at the FPH Gallery is a vibrant reflection of their lifelong journey. The showcased works don’t adhere to a single theme; instead, they explore the full spectrum of artistic expression. Dattaray Goilkar’s pieces, made with oil, acrylic, and watercolor, demonstrate his mastery across mediums while inviting viewers into deeply personal realms of thought and emotion.

MOHINI

Paintings that come alive

One of the most striking pieces on display is Mohini-a captivating painting of a woman whose eyes seem to follow the viewer, creating a lifelike and almost mystical experience. This optical illusion not only showcases technical skill but also reinforces the idea that great art lives and breathes with its audience.

Banjaran

Another noteworthy painting, Banjaran, captures the spirit of newly discovered youth. Its first impression enchants the viewer with beauty, pulling them into a sense of tenderness and affection. The painting becomes an emotional mirror-reflecting vitality, innocence, and the curiosity of new beginnings.

The Race

Then there is The Race- a dynamic portrayal of the pursuit of success. With its energetic strokes and bold composition, the piece radiates positivity and strength. It illustrates not just movement, but the rhythm of ambition-depicting energy, uniformity, and unyielding determination in motion.

Spirituality through art

Beyond traditional canvas work, the Goilkars also delve into spiritual art, particularly yantra paintings. These geometrically intricate pieces are rooted in ancient Indian traditions and are believed to invite peace, focus, and positivity into the space they inhabit. Whether placed at home or in a work environment, these paintings serve both aesthetic and meditative purposes.

A legacy of inspiration

Through their art and their teaching, Dattaray and Madhavi Goilkar continue to inspire and influence. Their work reminds us that art is not merely visual-it is emotional, spiritual, and deeply human. As their paintings grace the walls of FPH Gallery, they also touch hearts, encouraging every visitor to see art as a way of living, feeling, and being.

Their work if art is currently at display from 16th January to 30th January at the FPH Gallery at The Free Press House, Nariman Point.
