
Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to the highest run chase in Lucknow, defeating LSG by 6 wickets and knocking them out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.
New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their third big win in the tournament by defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets in a high-scoring match of IPL 2025. SRH achieved the target of 206 runs in 18.2 overs. However, this win could not take SRH to the playoffs, as they have also been eliminated due to net run rate and results of other teams. With this defeat, Lucknow Super Giants became the fifth team to be eliminated from the tournament.
SG innings: Mitchell Marsh and Markram storm
Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants scored 205 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh (65 runs, 39 balls, 6 fours, 4 sixes) and Aiden Markram (61 runs, 38 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) batted brilliantly and put the team in a strong position.
Rishabh Pant scored 7 runs but was caught and bowled by Ishan Malinga. Nicholas Pooran (45 runs, 26 balls) came in at the end and scored runs quickly. However, Lucknow’s innings faltered a bit due to continuous fall of wickets in the last overs. In the last three overs, the team lost 3 wickets and was limited to a score of more than 200.
Ishan Malinga bowled brilliantly and took 2 wickets and Harsh Dubey and Harshal Patel also got one success each.
SRH’s fast start: Abhishek Sharma’s blast
Atharva Tayde (13 runs) gave a fast start to SRH, who came out to chase the target of 206 runs, but he was out early. After this, Abhishek Sharma played a stormy innings of 59 runs in just 20 balls, which included 4 fours and 6 skyscraper sixes. He dominated the bowlers of Lucknow and changed the course of the match.
Solid partnership of Klaasen and Kishan
After Abhishek Sharma was out, Ishan Kishan (35 runs) and Heinrich Klaasen (47 runs) maintained the run rate and gave stability to the innings. Klaasen’s aggressive batting brought SRH closer to the target.
Kamindu Mendis retired hurt, but finish strong
Kamindu Mendis retired hurt after scoring 32 runs but in the end Aniket Verma and Nitish Reddy led the team to victory with unbeaten innings of 10-10 runs.
LSG bowling was weak
Lucknow’s bowling failed to defend this big score. Digvesh Rathi took two wickets but the rest of the bowlers proved to be very expensive. Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan and Akshdeep failed to stop the runs.
SRH win, LSG out of the tournament
SRH won the match by 6 wickets on the basis of excellent batting performance. At the same time, this defeat of Lucknow Super Giants knocked them out of the tournament. The road to the playoffs is now open for SRH while LSG will now have to start preparing for the next season.
