A man in France was recently stopped by traffic police for drunk driving, but what shocked the officers even more was what they found next. The driver had been behind the wheel without a valid licence for not a month but decades together. The person, whose identity remains unreported, drove his vehicle without the necessary licence for the past 28 years. No license for 28 yearsThe man, who was stopped during a routine traffic check last week, casually admitted to the officers that he didn’t possess a valid driving licence since 1997. While cops wonder how he wasn’t caught for years, he was recently caught for driving under the influence of alcohol and not actually his licence check at first. He informed the cops that his document had expired and he never reapplied for renewal. When asked about why, he tried to let go of the seriousness of the situation by comparing his old, invalid licence to “an expired but still edible yogurt”. Vehicle not covered by insuranceThis May, the officers initially asked for his vehicle papers at the checkpost, when they discovered the car wasn’t covered by insurance. But the real shock came when they demanded him to produce his licence.In a Facebook post, the Tarare police wrote, “First, a check of the files revealed that the vehicle was not covered by insurance. But then came the time to check the validity of the driver’s license. And then: surprise! The highlight of the show came when the driver’s license was checked: the man had been driving without a license since… 1997!”. Police were stunned at how he managed to go unnoticed for so long, especially in a country with strict traffic laws. The man is reportedly expected to appear in court soon to face legal consequences.
