Bengaluru Rain: A heavy spell of rain lasting over six hours between Sunday night and Monday morning caused severe waterlogging in several low-lying parts of Bengaluru, disrupting daily life.

Bengaluru has been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours, with some users on X calling it the city’s heaviest downpour of the year. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a rain alert for 23 districts across Karnataka, including Bengaluru.

The Karnataka State Disaster Monitoring Cell reported that Kengeri recorded the highest rainfall at 132 mm, followed closely by Vaderahalli in northern Bengaluru with 131.5 mm. Several other areas also saw over 100 mm of rain overnight.

Heavy waterlogging caused numerous tree branches to fall and vehicles to break down, leading to severe traffic congestion in a city already notorious for its traffic problems.

MLA Visits Affected Area On JCB

Amid severe waterlogging, local MLA B Basavraj visited the affected Sai Layout area on Monday, inspecting the situation firsthand from a JCB.

Authorities are deploying JCBs to clear waterlogged areas, particularly where flooding has entered residents’ homes.

Netizens Storm Internet

After the overnight rain flooded Bengaluru roads, causing heavy waterlogging and traffic jams, netizens flooded the internet with reactions.

A user said: “Venice is built in #BrandBengaluru by our visionary leaders and highly efficient & honest @BBMPCOMM officials, plan your commute only through boats."

Another user commented: “I’ve never ever seen such a pathetic condition in Bengaluru. BBMP is not collecting and disposing of collected waste. Rainwater spreading waste across Bengaluru."

“Heavily depressed by the #Bengaluru rain pictures in X on Monday morning. Imagine the plight of commuters. We deserve better infrastructure & governance," a third user said.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru City Police tweeted a traffic advisory due to waterlogging in northern Bengaluru for New Bel Road towards Ayyappa temple, Nagawara bus stop towards Sarayapalya and Allasandra to Yelahanka Circle.
