Google Maps just got smarter for iPhone users. To make it easier to save places of interest, Google has introduced a new feature that scans your screenshots and extracts location information, like the name or address, so you don't have to.

Let's say you're scrolling through social media and come across a cool cafe or a place you should visit. Instead of taking a screenshot and then trying to remember the name or search for it again on Maps, Google Maps will now do it for you. Using its Gemini AI, the app can figure out details about any place in your screenshots and give you the option to save those places instantly.

What do you need to do to use this feature?

To try it out, just make sure you've updated Google Maps to the latest version. Then, go to the You tab in the app. You'll see a new private list called Screenshots, where a small demo will show you how it works.

Here's what to do: When you take a screenshot that includes a location, like the name and address of a restaurant, Google Maps will automatically find it. A review screen will pop up, showing you what it found. You can save it or skip it. It's up to you. Saved locations go into your new "Screenshots" list, and you can always move them to another list if you want.

Automatically picks up locations.
The best part is that if you give Maps access to all your photos, it can automatically scan your new screenshots and show you a handy carousel of locations to review. If you prefer to work manually, that's no problem either. You can still browse your gallery and choose the screenshots to scan.

There's also a Clear button that lets you easily turn this feature on or off at any time. This update is especially useful for those who often use screenshots as reminders. With Maps now handling the heavy work, finding and saving new places is much easier.
