Playing music through Wi-Fi for earbuds or wireless headphones will be effective for mid-range phones which was not possible earlier.

Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon chipset for mid-range phones running on Android that will be rolling out in the next few months. The biggest change with this chipset is the support for audio via Wi-Fi. 

Wireless headphones or earbuds have used Bluetooth for connectivity till date but companies are now bringing the audio support over Wi-Fi which changes the dynamics of how the audio frequency is transmitted through the network.

We have only seen this tech offered on premium phones till date but the new Snapdragon 7 Gen chipset allows more brands to make it available at a lower price point. 

Wi-Fi Audio For Mid-Range Phones: How Is It Different? 

The use of Wi-Fi networks to run audio on phones will be lighter than running through Bluetooth. After all, running the headphones/earbuds through Wi-Fi will not only increase your wireless range to use the audio products but also increase the overall standby time of these devices and your phone.

Qualcomm is powering this new feature through its latest Snapdragon chip that will completely negate the purpose of using headphones in a range of 20 feet from the paired device. 

Having Wi-Fi in its armoury will also allow the audio quality to improve, and most likely offer lossless music even wirelessly on Android phones. One might say that Bluetooth Low Energy or LE has solved the battery life issues with these devices but one feels more optimistic about them running over Wi-Fi that are even less likely to consume a lot of battery. 

Earlier it was mentioned that only phones with the Snapdragon 8 gen chipset will get this technology but the fact that Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is already compatible means the budget TWS earbuds should get the support for audio over Wi-Fi in the next few months.
