Wes Anderson , the unparalleled filmmaker, took a massive dig at President Donald J. Trump, mocking and questioning the rationality of 100% tariffs on foreign-produced films during the Cannes Film Festival 2025 . The 56-year-old burst into laughter and asked, “Can you hold up the movie in customs? It doesn’t ship that way.”

What did Wes Anderson say about Donald Trump ?According to the clip shared by Variety, Wes Anderson was at the press conference at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 for his film, ‘ The Phoenician Scheme ,’ which partly has a couple of shots that were filmed in Germany.

“The tariff is interesting because I’ve never heard of a 100% tariff before. I’m not an expert in that area of economics, but I feel that means he’s saying he’s going to take all the money. And then what do we get? So it’s complicated to me, ” Wes said, erupting in laughter while sitting beside the amazing star cast.

“Can you hold up the movie in customs? It doesn’t ship that way,” he added, mocking the entire tariff scheme.

Earlier this month, the 78-year-old President of the United States announced 100% tariffs on foreign-produced films because Hollywood is “dying a very fast death.” Stating that he would slap tariffs on any films that are produced in foreign lands, Donald Trump stunned the world with a decision he posted on his Truth Social account.

The Republican added, “This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!”
