Supreme Court on Law Student: The Supreme Court said on Tuesday that young people cannot appear in the Judicial Service Examination as soon as they are Bachelor of Law and it is mandatory for candidates applying for entry level posts to practice law for a minimum of three years. A bench of Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih reiterated the importance of court experience for future judges. Delivering the verdict, the Chief Justice said, "The appointment of new Bachelor of Law has caused many difficulties, as many High Courts have said. Practical experience in court is essential to ensure judicial efficiency and competence. The bench said that a minimum of three years of advocacy is mandatory for appearing in the judicial service examination for entry-level civil justice posts of lower category cadre.

This decision came on a petition filed by the All India Justice Association. The Chief Justice said that allowing direct entry of new Bachelors of Law into the judiciary has created practical challenges, as reflected in the reports submitted by various High Courts. Detailed decision awaited.

In addition, the time worked as a law clerk for judges will also be added. Also, after being selected as a judge, he will have to undergo one year of training before hearing in the court. The requirement of minimum practice will not apply where the High Court has already started the appointment process of Civil Judge Junior Division.
