Spain has once again seen a national crisis, this time the country's main mobile network has collapsed. This incident happened weeks after a major power cut in the country caused chaos and huge economic damage. This problem came to light after a network upgrade was done by Spain's leading telecom company Telefónica.

Due to this, landline telephone service was most affected. Voice call services were also affected. Emergency services (112 number) also had to issue a new number in many areas. Telefónica said in a statement, "We have made some network upgrades, which have affected some services. We are working to solve the problem."

Which areas were affected? Emergency services were particularly affected in Aragon, Extremadura, the Basque region, and Valencia, although later 112 service was restored in areas like Valencia, Aragon, La Rioja, and Andalusia. According to Downdetector, complaints started around 2 am.

Of those who reported, 72% faced network outages, 18% had no signal, and 10% had complete service shutdown. Spain's Ministry of Digital Transformation has said that they are monitoring the situation and taking timelines and technical information from telecom companies.

These network problems have come to light when an unprecedented power crisis disrupted life in Spain and Portugal in late April. Power was out for 23 hours. Traffic lights, payment terminals, metro, and airports were shut down. Hundreds of flights had to be canceled. A cyber attack is suspected to be behind this major power cut, and a government investigation has started.

Investigation continues, possibility of cyber attack.
The Spanish government has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter involving the High Court, security agencies, and technical experts. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Beatriz Corredor, head of power grid operator REE, have made it clear that renewable energy was not the cause of the power cuts.
