Apple has warned nearly two billion iPhone users to immediately delete an app that could misuse users' privacy and their bank account information. The tech giant has issued a warning in a new video that all iPhone users who are using Chrome on their phones should delete it immediately.
In the YouTube video, Apple has advised its users to stop using Google's Chrome web browser, citing serious privacy concerns, without naming the company. According to a Daily Mail report, an anti-tracking video from Apple, 'Flock', shows iPhone users attempting to escape an endless barrage of surveillance cameras that explode when the user chooses Safari as their browser.
Google's Chrome tracks third-party cookies, and in such a situation, everything from user data to banking information is being collected with it. These cookies earn Google billions of dollars and help websites and advertisers track Chrome users' online activities and serve them personalized ads.
Google had earlier planned to replace cookies with a new system that would allow Chrome users to choose "don't track me" with a single click. However, these plans were shelved as there were concerns in the online advertising industry that any new option would leave less room for competitors, as reported by the Daily Mail.
While tracking cookies themselves are not always harmful, they can pose privacy risks and, in some situations, increase the likelihood of your data, such as private information like bank records, being stolen or leaked.
Unless they manually delete cookies or use the browser's incognito mode, iPhone users who use Chrome will be tracked for everything they do, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Which are the safest browsers for iPhone users?
Apple markets Safari, its web browser, as "a browser that's truly private." Firefox, DuckDuckGo, and Avast Secure are other secure browser options available to iPhone users.
