The first 9000 HP locomotive engine produced at the railway manufacturing complex in Dahod, which was constructed with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore, would be inaugurated by the prime minister.

Over the next ten years, 1,200 engines will be produced at the PPP-established railway facility in Dahod, with intentions to sell them both locally and abroad. Soon, all of these locomotive engines will be manufactured in India as part of the 100% Made in India campaign.

The capacity of these engines to transport loads up to 4,600 tons is one of their primary characteristics. For the very first time, the engines will have air conditioning and a driver’s restroom. A cutting-edge cover system has also been fitted to improve security and prevent mishaps. The Dahod plant, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, is now manufacturing four engines, all of which will be proudly branded “Manufactured In Dahod.”

It is anticipated that this project will significantly strengthen the local economy by creating direct and indirect jobs for around 10,000 people in Dahod and the surrounding areas. Additionally, small and medium-sized engineering businesses and power sector suppliers will have more business options thanks to the different components needed for locomotive manufacture by the global corporation that won the contract as the lowest bidder.

Notably, the 6-axle, 9000 HP electric engine will go 75 km/h on average. This engine will be maintained in depots in Pune, Maharashtra; Raipur, Chhattisgarh; Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh; and Kharagpur, West Bengal.
