With grey skies blanketing the city and intermittent showers soaking the streets, Hyderabad is bracing for continued rainfall over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across Telangana, warning residents to prepare for more wet weather.
Rainfall was recorded in several neighbourhoods across the city, including Koti, Secunderabad, Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills, reported Hans India. While some areas experienced steady, moderate rain, others reported isolated heavy showers that briefly disrupted traffic flow and daily routines.
CM Revanth Reddy Issues Directives
In light of the forecast, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed district and municipal authorities to stay on high alert, as per a report on The Hindu.
He emphasised the need to ensure food grain stocks at procurement centers remain protected from the rain and instructed district collectors to coordinate regular transfers to mills to prevent spoilage.
Public Advisory
The IMD has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during downpours, warning of likely traffic snarls and potential waterlogging. The advisory also notes the risk of temporary disruptions in electricity supply and urges citizens to take basic precautions.
The weather department predicts the rainy spell may continue for at least the next 72 hours, keeping Hyderabad on alert as early monsoon patterns strengthen across the region.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala within the next four to five days, potentially arriving earlier than the typical onset date of June 1. If this happens, it would be the earliest monsoon onset over the Indian mainland since 2009, according to IMD data cited by PTI. In 2009, the monsoon it arrived in Kerala on May 23.
The IMD said: "The conditions are likely to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during next 4-5 days."
