New Maternity Leave Policy Announced
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha state administration has unveiled new maternity leave regulations for its female workforce.
These guidelines were officially released following the endorsement from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
According to the new policy, women can take maternity leave for a total of 180 days, starting three months prior to their expected delivery date (EDD) and extending up to six months post-birth. This leave can be utilized in one continuous stretch or divided into several segments. However, it is mandated that childbirth occurs in an accredited medical facility.
The guidelines also address scenarios where a female government employee was not employed at the time of childbirth but later resumed her position, as well as situations involving miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn.
If a female employee was not in service during childbirth and returns later, she is entitled to maternity leave until her child reaches six months of age, although this may be less than the full 180 days.
This maternity leave policy applies to female government employees who have fewer than two children.
