Dispur: To gauge their preparedness for the forthcoming International Day of Yoga, Ashok Singhal, the Assam Health Minister, held a virtual conference with all District Commissioners and Co-District Commissioners on Wednesday.

The conference was attended by Ms. Indranoshi Das, Director of AYUSH, Assam, and Dr. P. Ashok Babu, Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department.
The Minister emphasized in his speech that yoga should be practiced every day of the year, not only on June 21. He called on all district authorities to raise awareness and advocate for yoga as a vital component of everyday life. He went on to say that the IDY commemoration had to be changed from a mundane occasion to a lively public celebration that includes all facets of society.
Every year on June 21, the world celebrates the International Day of Yoga. Since it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the date was selected.
The statement states that the theme for this year’s 11th International Day of Yoga is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” highlighting the close relationship between individual wellness and the health of the world.
Salbari, Baksa district, will host the state-level central celebration of IDY 2025 in Assam. The Deputy Commissioner of Baksa and the Director of AYUSH examined the location together. The Chief Minister subsequently gave his approval for the June 21 major celebration, according to the announcement.
Every district administration has received instructions to fully promote the event, guarantee widespread public involvement, and increase its exposure.
All 35 Assamese districts will have district- and co-district-level events in addition to the main festival. These consist of contests, awareness-raising campaigns, yoga classes, and cultural events. In order to engage people at the grassroots level, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, panchayats, schools, and universities would be essential.
To enhance public involvement and worldwide outreach, the Ministry of AYUSH is undertaking a number of transformational projects as part of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025 celebration.
In an attempt to break the Guinness record, a coordinated mass yoga demonstration known as Yoga Sangama will take place at one million places worldwide. In order to strengthen worldwide cooperation, Yoga Bandhan will form alliances with ten nations to offer yoga classes at well-known sites across the world. Across the country, 1,000 Yoga Parks will be created to encourage sustained community involvement. Yoga Samavesh will place a strong emphasis on inclusivity by providing specialized yoga classes for Divyangjan, the elderly, kids, and underrepresented groups.
Yoga Prabhava, a long-term impact evaluation, will evaluate yoga’s contribution to public health throughout the previous ten years. Leading yoga specialists and medical professionals from across the globe will come together for the Yoga Connect Virtual Global Summit. By combining yoga classes with cleanup campaigns and tree planting, Harit Yoga will encourage sustainability.
Yoga Unplugged will provide interesting, youth-oriented activities and challenges in an effort to draw in younger people. Over the course of a week, ten venues will host a massive Yoga Maha Kumbh celebration, which will culminate in a prime minister-led ceremony. Additionally, the 100-day Samyogam effort will combine yoga with contemporary medical treatments to supportstic well-being in local communities.
To promote community involvement, a limited number of similar events will also be held across Assam, with an emphasis on youth and public engagement. Prior to June 21, special countdown events will be planned.
In every district, four age groups will compete in a yoga asana competition based on the Common Yoga Protocol. With assistance from AYUSH authorities and non-governmental organizations, the District Commissioner will oversee the program and work in tandem with the District Nodal Officer (AYUSH). Certificates will be given to each participant, and the winners will be presented in front of local officials on the day of the celebration.
To guarantee inclusive participation from all age groups and communities, the Health Minister advised all authorities to work closely with educational institutions, the Armed Forces, NCC, NSS, municipal bodies, NGOs, and yoga organizations.
Soon, a comprehensive media campaign including print, internet, and outdoor media will be introduced to increase public awareness and promote regular yoga practice.
