When we think of thrilling and adventurous its always the big-budget Hollywood movies that come to our minds. From wild animals dangerous rivers to mysterious tribes—these are things we’ve seen in international movies. But what if we told you that an Indian film not only captured all of this but actually went into the real Amazon jungle to shoot the story? Back in 2016 A Bollywood movie went out of the usual and broke records by doing which had never been done before. It was the first Indian movie to be shot in the Amazon rainforest. The film featured not just star star-studded cast but wild animals like leopards crocodiles anacondas and more. The film is called Amazon Obhijaan and it was directed by Kamaleshwar Mukherjee. It follows the adventurous journey of Shankar who goes deep into the Amazon with a woman and her father in search of El Dorado the lost city of gold. The film is a sequel to the 2013 movie Chander Pahar. Even though the movie was made on a small budget of ₹20 crores it turned out to be a big hit earning around ₹48.63 crores. It was later released in five other languages—Hindi Tamil Telugu Odia and Assamese—making it one of the most successful Bengali films ever. Here’s what’s more amazing: on 4 November 2017 the film’s poster was launched at the Mohun Bagan Ground. It was 320 feet tall and 190 feet wide making it the largest film poster in Indian history. With this Amazon Obhijaan broke the Guinness World Record earlier held by Baahubali. This movie didn’t just make money—it made history. From planning to shoot in Siberia to actually filming in the heart of the Amazon jungle it showed that Indian cinema can also take bold and adventurous steps just like Hollywood.
