To make cities greener, the Uttar Pradesh government has been creating parks and open areas. New parks with a minimum size of 2,000 square meters and a maximum area of 4,046 square meters (one acre) would be constructed as required under the Upvan Yojana.
For quick afforestation, the Miyawaki technique will be used, and trees will cover 75% of the land. Municipal councils will pay between 20 lakhs and 75 lakhs, while municipal corporations will pay between 20 lakhs and 3 crores.
The government is carrying out a number of programs to protect the environment and make both rural and urban regions greener, according to Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department. For the fiscal year 2025–2026, a budget of Rs 70 crore has been set out for the Upavan Yojana.
The building of parks will give priority to old landfills. Additionally, municipal corporations and councils will have to raise money on their own, including via the Swachh Bharat Mission, Amrit 2.0, CSR funding, and 3% of CFC and SFC monies. The corresponding municipal corporations will establish a committee to examine and approve park development ideas.
Following approval, the DPR will be sent to the government. In a similar vein, the DPR will be presented to municipal councils after approval by a commission led by the district magistrate. With assistance from the forest department for planting, municipal corporations might create the park on their own.
The forest department will handle the Miyawaki forest work for the local councils. Along with eco-friendly and therapeutic plants, there will be entertainment options and kid-friendly play equipment available.
