Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 FE may not deliver the major camera overhaul some fans were hoping for, according to fresh leaks. As the affordable sibling in the flagship Galaxy S25 lineup, the Fan Edition (FE) model aims to deliver core features at a more accessible price—but it appears the telephoto camera may remain the same as its predecessor.
Familiar Telephoto Hardware Expected
According to sources from GalaxyClub, the Galaxy S25 FE is expected to feature an 8MP 3x telephoto lensidentical to what the Galaxy S24 FE offered. This revelation might disappoint photography enthusiasts expecting a camera upgrade that closes the gap between the FE and the Ultra or Plus models.
While the main sensor is still tipped to be a 50MP shooteras with the previous generation, there’s currently no word on any sensor improvements or algorithmic enhancements that could significantly change photo quality. The telephoto lens, crucial for zoom shots, is likely the same or a slightly modified version—meaning long-distance image quality may remain modest at best.
Cost-Saving Measures Continue
The decision to retain the same telephoto lens aligns with Samsung’s longstanding strategy for the FE series—offering flagship design and core specs while cutting back on cost-heavy components. Telephoto lenses, especially advanced periscope or variable zoom systems, are expensive to implement, making them a prime target for cost reduction in budget-conscious models.
Even the Galaxy S25 Edgea more premium device in the lineup, has shown restraint in upgrading telephoto capabilities, so it’s no surprise that the FE model would follow suit.
Minor Improvements in Other Cameras
While the telephoto lens may see no major changes, the Galaxy S25 FE is expected to feature a 12MP ultra-wide cameraoffering wide-angle shooting support for landscapes and group shots. Additionally, the front-facing camera will reportedly get a bump to 12MPa welcome upgrade from the previous 10MP shooter, enhancing selfie and video call quality.
Expected Launch Timeline
If Samsung sticks to its traditional release cycle, the Galaxy S25 FE could launch around October 2025. By then, it will join the rest of the Galaxy S25 series, which has already made its debut earlier in the year.
While the Galaxy S25 FE may not wow users with cutting-edge optics, it still aims to deliver a well-rounded experience for fans who want the flagship look and feel at a lower price point.
