PATNA: In the event that the INDIA alliance wins control of Bihar in the next Assembly election, the Congress pledged on Wednesday to deposit Rs 2,500 into women’s bank accounts every month under the “Mai Behan Maan Yojana.” State chairman Rajesh Kumar and Alka Lamba, national president of the party’s women’s cell, said that the program will provide financial support to women from all walks of life.

“The Coordination Committee of the INDIA bloc approved the decision to inform people about ‘Mai Behan Maan Yojna,'” Rajesh Kumar informed the reporters. According to him, the elderly party employees have been requested to tell the public about the party’s pledge in the event that they win an election.

Interest in the relationship between the RJD and the Congress, two important partners of the opposition INDIA bloc in Bihar, has grown ever since the grand old party began to let go of long-standing inhibitions and express itself, surprising its ally.

Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the head of the RJD, had said in December of last year that he would start the “Mai Behan Maan Yojana,” pledging to deposit a comparable sum of money into women’s bank accounts each month if his party won the state’s next administration. Lamba now asserts that “Mai Behan Maan Yojna” would benefit women from all social classes and castes.

All parties are attempting to broaden their base of support among these caste-neutral voters, despite the fact that women are seen as a powerful vote bank for Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s JD (U).
