Discussion on Water Resource Projects

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu engaged with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in New Delhi to address significant water resource initiatives relevant to Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Minister firmly emphasized the necessity of safeguarding the state's interests in the Kishau Hydro Electric Project and highlighted the importance of a favorable funding structure.


Sukhu proposed that the financial responsibilities associated with the Kishau project should be entirely managed by either the Government of India or the primary beneficiary states, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.


Concerns Over Renuka Dam Project

During their discussions, the Chief Minister also brought up vital concerns regarding the Renuka Dam project. He urged for careful consideration of the Local Area Development Fund and the provision for free power. Sukhu pointed out that while hydroelectric projects are crucial for the nation's progress, it is essential to address their environmental and social repercussions, ensuring that affected states receive adequate compensation.


Additionally, he requested the prompt release of outstanding funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission for Himachal Pradesh. In response, Union Minister CR Patil assured the Chief Minister of the central government's full support and cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Principal Adviser to the Chief Minister Ram Subhag Singh, Resident Commissioner Meera Mohanty, and Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar.
