There was no mercy shown by LSG, led by ‘The Bison’ Mitchell Marsh’s blistering century, as the Rishabh Pant-led side registered a dominant 33-run win against the Gujarat Titans on Thursday.
One could easily garner that GT were set to be completely outclassed from the get-go, as the Titans got off to a fiery start, putting up 97 runs in the first 10 overs.
Shubman Gill figured he’d found relief after the departure of Aiden Markram. But, the GT would be gravel mistaken as Marsh, now aided by a firecracker of a batter in Pooran, kicked into overdrive, hammering his way to his maiden IPL century in just 56 balls.
Gujarat threw the kitchen sink at the fiery batting duo to no avail, as Marsh ended his outing with 117 runs, an innings peppered with 10 fours and 8 sixes.
Pooran then put the finishing touches on LSG’s blitzkrieg, ending the innings with an unbeaten 56*, to help LSG set a mammoth target of 236 runs for GT.
The table toppers, GT, though, were not intimidated.
Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill started off on a heater, pushing up the scoring to keep pace with the needed run rate. And when the opening duo departed eventually, it was the hard-hitting Shah Rukh Khan who stepped up.
After posting 96 runs on the board by the 10th over, Shahrukh took the attack to LSG, hammering his way to a quickfire 57 off 29 balls, as GT inched closer to the seemingly impenetrable target.
LSG would find their saviour in Avesh Khan, who then delivered with an absolute heater of a penultimate over, conceding only 5 runs and removing Shahrukh.
That was the crushing blow as LSG then comfortably sealed the 33-run win and took home two consolation points.
