MI Can Finish In the Top 2 In IPL 2025 Table: How?

MI Can Finish In the Top 2 In IPL 2025 Table: It has rarely happened in IPL history that seven league games are still pending, yet four teams have sealed their places for the playoffs/semi-finals.

After match 63, Mumbai Indians (MI) became the fourth team to confirm their spot in the playoffs, joining Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the playoffs.

In what was a high-stakes encounter for both MI and Delhi Capitals (DC), with DC in a must-win territory, the hosts outclassed the visitors at the Wankhede Stadium by a whopping 59 runs. Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat for Mumbai, cracking 73* off 43 balls on a tricky pitch, before Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner claimed three-wicket hauls each to bowl DC out for 121.

Although the IPL2025 playoffs teams are finalized, their eventual spots are not. This will keep the last round of matches interesting for fans and teams, as there’s still plenty to play for for the top four sides.

Now that it’s clear who the top four teams will be in the points table, the race is now for the top two spots. This is because the teams finishing in the top two will play in Qualifier 1, with the losing side getting one more opportunity to reach the final in the Eliminator match.

This is how the top four standings are currently:

  1. GT – Matches: 12, Points: 18
  2. RCB – Matches: 12, Points: 17
  3. PBKS – Matches: 12, Points: 17
  4. MI – Matches: 13, Points: 16

Clearly, GT, RCB, and PBKS are well ahead of MI—who have played one game less than the other three teams and also have the fewest points at the moment of the top four—in the race to the top two. However, MI still have a slim chance of finishing the league stage in the top two and will require plenty of other results to go their way.

MI Can Finish In the Top 2 In IPL 2025 Table: How?

Yes, Mumbai Indians, who have 16 points in 13 games, can still finish in the top two. But for that, they will have to hope for at least two of the top three teams—GT, RCB, and PBKS—to lose all of their remaining two matches, given that MI also beat PBKS in their last league game. This is a very small, perhaps impractical, possibility that two of those three teams lose both of their leftover games.
