Everyone is friends, but no other coalition is feasible: Paswan Chirag
Rekha Prajapati | May 23, 2025 2:27 PM CST

Delhi Union Minister Chirag Paswan addressed rumors about his increasing closeness to political figures from Tejashwi Yadav to Prashant Kishor in an interview with IANS, adamantly declaring, “Friends with everyone, alliance with none till PM Modi is my Prime Minister.”

Despite having personal ties, Chirag Paswan made it plain that he is still only loyal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the present NDA partnership. He also discussed Operation Sindoor, Bihar politics, and India’s international outreach against terrorism.

The whole interview is available here:

The Indian government has sent delegates overseas since Operation Sindoor. How significant do you think this is?

Chirag Paswan: That’s essential. Following a cruel and dishonorable terrorist assault on our nation, the Indian Army showed bravery and gallantry via Operation Sindoor. The world has to be aware of this. To convey India’s stance, a delegation of MPs has been sent to many international nations. Presenting the correct image of India is essential. Only terrorist camps were demolished by our troops, and no civilians were harmed. For a long time, our neighbor was supporting these terrorist camps. There have also been delegations in the past. Making the world aware of India’s accurate story is their goal.

Operation Sindoor is being questioned by the opposition, Congress, and even the RJD. In addition to questioning the truce and the reasons why the PoK wasn’t captured, they are discussing Pakistan’s shooting down of fighter planes. What do you think about this?

Paswan Chirag: Is this the appropriate moment to bring up such matters? What are the opposition parties, particularly Congress, doing at a time when the nation must come together to fight terrorism? You are just repeating the story from Pakistan. Our opponent is posing the same questions that they are. Do you really believe that politics is at its best right now? For now, let the world see India as a single entity. The legislative delegation that has left is speaking for the nation, not just one party. Since this administration and this prime minister remain in office until 2029, you may ask all the questions you want afterward. However, do you believe that India should seem split at this time? The opposition has played a completely incorrect role in this whole situation, and if they keep going in this direction, India’s reputation would suffer internationally.

The prime minister said, “Those who attempted to eradicate Sindoor have reduced us to dust.” What are your thoughts?

Chirag Paswan: Justice is symbolized by the term, Operation Sindoor. The operation’s name alone provides emotional justice for the way many of our women lost their husbands in this terrible act. The Prime Minister’s forceful remarks once again demonstrate his unshakeable will, the same resolve he had announced in Madhubani from the Bihar soil, when he had made it apparent that the reaction would be unimaginable. And I think that’s exactly what the Indian Army has provided.

We should ask a query about Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was recently introduced to you. Did you let him know that you will be visiting Bihar?

Chirag Paswan: I joined politics for Bihar and Biharis, and my chief minister is fully aware of this. This has always pleased him. Naturally, we spoke about a number of political issues during our conversation, including the impending elections in Bihar. We made it clear that the party wants me to stay in Bihar longer and take on a more significant and active role. In my opinion, the CM is pleased with this and wants the party to have a significant impact on the next Assembly elections, which will be advantageous for the coalition as a whole. This is about forming a cohesive partnership rather than operating in silos.

One of your short videos became viral. On the same day, you met CM Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav. Additionally, you were seen complimenting Prashant Kishor. For what reason does Chirag Paswan stand by everyone?

Chirag Paswan: (jokingly) You may form an alliance with anyone. I have already said unequivocally and publicly that I cannot even consider forming an alternative coalition as long as Modi ji remains my prime minister. If that were the true, I would have joined another alliance when I went solo in 2020. We would have been in a great position in Bihar, and maybe I would have performed much better. However, I made the decision to fight alone and not join any other coalition. Regarding the video you mentioned, I’ve always thought of Tejashwi’s family as my own, and I consider him to be a younger brother. I have always recognized that Rabri ji is like a mother to me and Lalu ji is like a father. During that meeting, all sides united to support the families of our martyrs, one of the most beautiful moments in our democracy. Reading too much into that encounter is not necessary, in my opinion.

You young leaders are on the ground, Kanhaiya Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav, Prashant Kishor, and Chirag Paswan. They also seem to show up wherever you go. Will the electoral field be populated by all four?

Indeed, Chirag Paswan. I think this would be a wonderful time for Bihar and its people as they fulfill their various tasks. Democracy is beautiful because it gives people options. I think Bihar has such options now. Individuals are free to choose the alliance, leadership, or philosophy that best fits them. And in my opinion, our partnership is the greatest one available right now.

Have things altered, or will 2025 be the same for you as 2020?

Paswan Chirag: Depending on the context of your inquiry. I ran for office by myself in 2020. You’ll see me solidly with the alliance in 2025. Together, we shall battle and prevail, and Nitish Kumar ji will be the Chief Minister once again. You would already know the numbers if it were that simple. I don’t even have the figures you floated. However, I will refrain from compromising the alliance’s honor by discussing numbers in public before doing so inside the alliance. First, these issues will be resolved inside our five-party coalition. The number of seats and the candidates from each location will then be announced in a joint news conference.
