Hassan: A dramatic turn of events unfolded at the Adichunchanagiri Kalyana Mantapa in Hassan on Friday morning, when a wedding ceremony was abruptly called off just moments before the ritual of tying the knot.
The bride, a postgraduate from Buvanahalli in Hassan, was scheduled to marry a teacher from Ishwarahalli village in Alur taluk. However, just before the muhurta, she received a phone call while seated on the wedding stage.
According to eyewitnesses, the bride suddenly stood up and declared that she no longer wanted to go ahead with the marriage. She then walked away from the stage and locked herself in a room, refusing to return despite efforts by her parents to convince her.
Reports suggest that the woman is in a relationship with another man, and the phone call was from her boyfriend, prompting her last-minute decision.
Meanwhile, the groom’s family also decided to call off the wedding and left the venue. Police were called to the scene and ensured there was no untoward incident as tensions rose briefly.
