Mumbai: The Masik Shivratri fast, observed monthly during the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi (14th lunar day of the waning moon), holds deep spiritual significance for devotees of Lord Shiva. Considered an auspicious opportunity to seek the blessings of Mahadev, this vrat (fast) is a sacred ritual performed by countless followers to remove obstacles, fulfil wishes, and bring harmony into life.

As per Hindu tradition, on this day, devotees observe a day-long fast and perform special puja of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The act of performing abhishek (ritual bathing) of the Shivling with sacred items is believed to attract divine blessings and usher in positive transformations. According to scriptures, sincere devotion on this day can help fulfil desires and bring spiritual upliftment.

When is Jyeshtha Masik Shivratri 2025?

According to the Vedic calendar, the Masik Shivratri in the month of Jyeshtha will begin on 25 May 2025 at 3:51 PM and conclude on 26 May 2025 at 12:11 PM. The fast and main puja are therefore to be observed on 25 May 2025.

Auspicious time for Masik Shivratri Puja

As per the Panchang (Hindu calendar), the most auspicious time for worship on Masik Shivratri will be from 11:58 PM to 12:38 AM on the night of 25 May. Devotees will have a powerful 41-minute window for performing the key rituals to maximise their spiritual benefits.

SACRED OFFERSS FOR SHIVLING on Masik Shivratri

To receive the blessings of Lord Shiva, it is considered extremely fruitful to perform the puja along with Goddess Parvati. Offer Bel Patra (Bilva leaves) to the Shivling during the ritual—these leaves are among the most sacred items in Shiva worship and symbolise pure devotion.

Offering Datura flowers is also highly recommended. According to spiritual belief, this brings the joy of offspring and protection from enemies.

For abhishek, use raw milk and curd to bathe the Shivling. This traditional practice is said to bring prosperity and remove negative energy from one’s life.
