If your Instagram profile is public, it means that anyone, whether a follower or not, can see, comment and share your posts. Although this can increase your reach and engagement, your account is also open to threats like fraud, spam and hacking. Luckily, Instagram has some security features that you can turn on to make your profile secure without going into private mode. Let's know these 5 important settings.
This feature adds an additional security layer along with your password. Whenever you login from a new device, Instagram will send a code to your registered mobile number or authenticator app, without entering which login will not be possible.
Turn it on like this. Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication > Turn it on and follow the instructions. If someone is harassing you in DMs or comments but you don't want to block them, you can 'Restrict' them. This will neither let them know that you have blocked them nor will they be able to freely interact with your posts.
How to turn it on: Go to the person's profile. Tap the three dots in the top right. Select 'Restrict'. Instagram gives you the option to hide comments with abusive or offensive language. It uses AI help or a custom keyword filter. How to turn it on: Settings > Privacy > Hidden Words, 'Hide Comments' and 'Custom Word Filter'
You may often be tagged in trolling or spam. To avoid this, decide who can tag or mention you. How to turn it on: Settings > Privacy > Tags/Mentions, choose 'People You Follow' or 'No One' here.
If someone tries to log in to your account without your knowledge, Instagram will send you notifications by email or phone. How to turn it on: Settings > Security > Login Activity, look for unknown devices, then turn on notifications under 'Emails from Instagram'.
