Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie have welcomed a fourth child, it was announced on Saturday. The former Prime Minister's wife said they were "smitten" with their baby daughter, who has been named Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson. Announcing the news in a post on Instagram, Mrs Johnson shared that Poppy, also known as "Pop Tart", had been born on Wednesday, May 21, at University College London Hospital.

"I can't believe how pretty and tiny you are," she added. "Feel so incredibly lucky. We are all totally smitten. Not sure I've slept a minute since you've been born as [I] can't stop looking at how completely lovely you are." The couple, who married in May 2021, had their first child Wilf in April 2020, followed by Romy in December 2021 and Frank in July 2023. "Wilf, Romy and Frank are utterly delighted," the mother-of-four revealed. "Particularly Romy, who was desperate for a little sister. Bring on the matching dresses."

Boris and Carrie made their relationship public in 2019, although they are thought to have met around a decade before, when the ex-Tory leader was still married to lawyer Marina Wheeler.

While Poppy is the pair's second daughter, Boris also has four children with his second ex-wive Ms Wheeler, including daughters Lara, now 27, and Cassia, now 23, as well as a love child from his affair with an art consultant in 2009.

He was famously tight-lipped about the number of children he had from his his two divorces and three marriages, before appearing to confirm the number - now at a total of 9 - during an interview on the Today Show in 2021.

"It's fantastic, it's fantastic," he said at the time. "It's a lot of work. I'll tell you that much, but I love it, I absolutely love it. And I change a lot of nappies."

The former Prime Minister's daughter with art consultant Helen Macintyre, Stephanie Macintyre, was the result of an extramarital affair during his second marriage and term as Mayor of London.

An Appeal Court ruled in 2013 that the public had a right to know that he had fathered a daughter outside of his marriage, describing it as "a public interest matter which the electorate was entitled to know when considering his fitness for high public office".

Boris, who had no children with his first wife Allegra Mostyn-Owen, whom he divorced after six years in 1990, generally dodges questions about his children. When asked if he was "fully involved" in all their lives during an appearance on LBC in 2019, he responded: "I love my children very much but they are not standing at this election. I am therefore not going to comment on them."
