No matter how strong the relations between India and the US are, the latest statement of former US President Donald Trump has once again created a stir in the business relations between the two countries. This time Trump’s target is one of the world’s largest technology companies – Apple. Trump has clearly stated that if the iPhone in India is sold in the US, Apple will have to pay 25 percent import duty.
Where did Trump threaten?
Donald Trump shared this statement on his social media platform Truth Social. He wrote – “I have told Apple’s CEO Tim Cook that the iPhone that will be sold in America should be made in America. If the iPhone made in India or any other country comes to America, then 25% tax will be imposed on it.”
Why are iPhone being made in India?
Apple previously made iPhone mainly in China, but over the years it has started developing India as a manufacturing hub. This has not only provided employment opportunities to India, but has also brought investment on a large scale. Companies like Foxconn and Pegatron are now producing for Apple in India.

Why does Trump object?
Trump says that the products sold in America should be made in America so that American citizens get jobs. This is part of the “US First” policy, which he has repeatedly repeated during his President’s tenure.
What will be the effect?
If this warning of Trump becomes a reality in the future and 25% tax is levied on Apple, then iPhone prices in the US may increase significantly. This will directly affect the customers and the possibility of a decline in sales is being expressed.
