Renowned Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has openly addressed her past conflict with writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and the ongoing criticism from veteran actor Firdous Jamal. She spoke candidly during her appearance on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast Excuse Me.
During the conversation, Mahira reflected on her professional relationship with Qamar, particularly their work on the hit drama Sadqay Tumhare, which was written by him. “We were never friends, but we did Sadqay Tumhare with love because it was his story,” she said.
Mahira acknowledged that her tweet criticizing Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, which sparked controversy, was a mistake. “If you’re asking whether I was wrong—yes, I was. I should have messaged him directly. He’s absolutely right that I should have spoken to him before tweeting. That was my fault,” she admitted.
She explained that the tweet was posted in frustration after reading a news article late at night regarding alleged misbehavior with a woman. “It didn’t matter to me who the woman was. When influential people say something wrong, we often stay silent out of fear of losing our jobs. I got angry and tweeted,” she said.
Mahira also shared her mother’s reaction to the situation. “My mother told me I was wrong. She said, ‘He is a senior. You should’ve asked him first. If someone questioned you the next day, you could have said your views were different.’”
In the same podcast, Mahira responded to long-standing criticism from veteran actor Firdous Jamal, who has publicly questioned her playing lead roles despite her age. She revealed that such comments once affected her deeply.
“In the beginning, these things hurt me a lot. But not anymore,” Mahira said. “I don’t know if people remember, but even during Punjab Nahi Jaungi, I was criticized by people from within my own industry. As long as you’re moderately successful, people are fine. But once you become very successful, some feel insecure and turn against you. The sad part is—they don’t even know me personally.”
Mahira Khan is set to appear on the big screen this Eid-ul-Adha alongside Humayun Saeed in the film Love Guru.
