Shani Shingnapur, Maharashtra
This temple is the largest temple of Lord Shabi in India and is located in Nevasa Taluka. Notably, it has neither a roof nor walls. The lord is represented by a five-foot-tall black stone placed on a platform called Sonai. Villagers found a black slab floating in the river with blood oozing from it. It is believed that Shani Dev appeared to the village leader in a dream and revealed that the slab was his representation. He instructed the leader to place the slab in the middle of the village.
Shani Dham Temple, New Delhi
This temple is situated in the capital of India, and it features an idol of Shani Dev carved from natural rock. The 21-foot-tall idol is the tallest statue of the lord in the world. Worshippers believe that praying here will help them overcome obstacles. It is also said that people with ailments may find relief when they enter the shrine with faith.
Shaneeswara Bhagavan Temple, Tamil Nadu
This temple in Tirunallar is one of the key Navagraha temples in India. This is one of the oldest temples dedicated to the lord. The Shani idol is said to have formed from a meteoroid that fell at the spot where it now sits. The idol is placed on a hilltop, believed to have been positioned there by Lord Hanuman so that Shani Dev could see Lanka and destroy it. Many devotees visit the temple to seek relief from negative effects in their lives.
Bannanje Sri Shani Kshetra, Karnataka
This temple features a tall monolith statue of Lord Shan on a two-step pedestal for visibility. It is located a few kilometres from the famous Sri Krishna temple in the Udupi district. The main offering here is tailabhisheka. Devotees come to seek blessings to overcome challenges and obstacles.
Erdara Shani Temple, Televita
Located in Medak District, this shrine features a 20-foot-tall idol of Lord Shani, carved from black stone, on a two-foot-high base. The idol weighs about 9 tons. The temple is located in Kottayam district. Its Shani Dev idol is unique because it portrays the deity as a benevolent God. It is believed that God helps those who approach Him with their problems.
Shani Mahatma Temple, Karnataka
In the Chikka Madhure district, this temple was reportedly built by a local farmer. It attracts many devotees on Saturdays, especially during the Hindu Shravan month. They believe that worshipping here or offering special prayers can help reduce or eliminate the negative effects of Panchama or Ashtama Shani. Worshippers drop black sesame seeds in a small piece of black cloth soaked in sesame oil into the fireplace before the temple.
