
In a major move Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran has decided to step down as the Director and Chairman of Tata Chemicals the company informed in exchange filings on Wednesday. In a letter N Chandrasekaran conveyed his decision to step down from the top post citing current and future commitments. After careful evaluation my current and future commitments I have decided to step down from the Board. It has been a privilege to chair the Tata Chemicals board and I sincerely appreciate the support and collaboration during my tenure the Tata Sons Chairman wrote in his addressed to the companys Board of Directors dated May 28. Following Chandrasekarans decision to vacate the post the Board has appointed S. Padmanabhan an existing Director as the new Chairman of Tata Chemicals with effect from May 30 2025 the company said. The Board has also approved the appointment of Modan Saha as an Additional Director (Non-Executive Non-Independent) effective May 28 2025 based on the recommendations of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee it added. Hailing from a farming family in Mohanur in Namakkal Tamil Nadu N Chandrasekaran the current Chairman of Tata Sons-- the holding company that runs the Tata Group started out from humble beginnings and rose to the very top of Indias largest conglomerate after Ratan Tata -- the legendary Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group who passed away in October last year-- decided to step down. Chandrasekaran completed his early education at a government school and later earned a bachelors degree in Applied Sciences from the Coimbatore Institute of Technology and then pursued a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree at the Regional Engineering College in Tiruchirappalli. His journey with the Tata Group began in 1987 when he joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an intern and quickly rose through the ranks to become Chief Operating Officer (COO) in September 2007. In October 2009 at just 46 years of age N Chandrasekaran was appointed as the CEO of TCS.
