Mumbai: Mahesh Navami, one of the most significant festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, will be observed this year in the month of June. Celebrated primarily by the Maheshwari community with deep devotion and enthusiasm, this day marks an important spiritual milestone and a time for collective prayer and reflection. Devotees across India perform special rituals and seek blessings from Lord Shiva for prosperity, health, and inner peace.

When is Mahesh Navami in 2025?

As per the Hindu Panchang, Mahesh Navami is celebrated on the ninth day (Navami Tithi) of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Jyeshtha. In 2025, the Navami Tithi will begin at 9:56 PM on 3 June and will end at 11:54 PM on 4 June. As per the Udaya Tithi (sunrise timing), the festival will be celebrated on 4 June 2025.

Mahesh Navami Puja Vidhi (Worship Method)

On Mahesh Navami, devotees wake up early, bathe, and wear clean clothes to begin the sacred rituals. The temple area in the home is cleaned thoroughly, and idols or images of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are installed with devotion.

Offerings such as sandalwood paste (chandan), vermillion (kumkum), rice grains (akshat), and fresh flowers are placed before the deities. Lighting a diya (lamp) and burning incense are essential parts of the ritual. Traditional offerings to Lord Shiva such as Bel leaves, Datura, and bhang are considered highly auspicious.

Chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” is recommended throughout the day. Devotees read or listen to the Mahesh Navami Vrat Katha and conclude their puja with aarti. Many observe a fruit-only fast during the day and break it only after the evening puja. Some devotees also perform Rudrabhishek, which is regarded as an extremely powerful and sacred ritual.
