Variety is a forthcoming film South Korean drama that tells the nitty-gritty of the K-pop idol world, interestingly, beyond the glitz and glam, highlighting the dark side of the industry. Son Ye Jin and Jo Yu Ri were channelised for the lead roles and the duo have been considering the roles, as per reports. According to What’s on Netflix on May 28, the filming will commence on July. The Netflix special thriller drama will feature a nuanced perspective of South Korean pop industry and the challenges faced in the making of an idol. Beyond the selection, it also tells the extreme sacrifices made by idols to attain the consistent success and the the pressure faced by management labels to upkeep the relevance.
Son Ye Jin in Variety
In Variety, Son Ye Jin was reportedly approached for an important figure in the K-pop industry. She may be appear as a powerful female CEO leading an entertainment company. As per the rumors, her character might also draw inferences from the former ADOR CEO, Min Hee Jin.
However the actor’s side is yet to confirm being on board, “It is true that she received an offer, but she is still reviewing the script.” The actor is known for her celebrated work in Crash Landing on You, Something in the Rain, The Negotiation and Thirty-Nine.
Jo Yu Ri in Variety
Squid Game 2 fame Jo Yu Ri’s character in the series has not been revealed yet. Nonetheless, it has been estimated that she is most likely destined to play the role of a kpop idol. According to a report by GQ India, makers are also seeking to cast incumbent and former K-pop stars in pivotal roles.

The series will be directed by Kim Yong Hoon and backed by CJ ENM, marking a streak in their long-standing collaboration. The shooting will be arranged between July 2025 and concluded by February 2026.
