PM Modi Meets Young Cricket Star Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Patna: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a special meeting with IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family at Patna airport. The Prime Minister took time to engage with the young cricketer and his parents before departing.
During his two-day visit to Bihar, which began on Thursday, PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal at Patna Airport. On Friday, he is set to launch and lay the groundwork for various infrastructure and welfare initiatives valued at around Rs 48,500 crore.
PM Modi shared moments from his encounter with Suryavanshi on his X account, stating, "At Patna airport, I met the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing talent is being celebrated nationwide! Wishing him all the best for his future endeavors."
Suryavanshi gained attention as the youngest centurion in IPL history at just 14 years old. He was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore during last year's auction. In seven matches, he has scored 252 runs, including a century and a half-century.
His impressive performances earned him a spot on India's U19 team for the upcoming tour of England, scheduled from June 24 to July 23. This tour includes a 50-over warm-up match, followed by a five-match Youth One-Day series and two Multi-Day matches against England U19.
Earlier this month, PM Modi praised Suryavanshi for his remarkable performance during the IPL 2025 season at the inauguration of the Khelo India Youth Games.
Modi remarked, "We have all witnessed the exceptional performance of Bihar's own Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the IPL. He has set a significant record at such a young age. His success is a result of hard work and experience gained from playing at various levels. This illustrates the saying, 'the more you play, the more you shine.'"
Suryavanshi's journey is truly remarkable. At just 14, he became the youngest player to compete in the Indian Premier League. In his third match, he made headlines by scoring a century in just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans, marking the fastest century by an Indian, breaking Yusuf Pathan's previous record of 37 balls.
He made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024 at the age of 12 years and 284 days, scoring 71 runs off 42 balls against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, thus becoming the youngest Indian to achieve a List-A fifty.
On the international front, Suryavanshi set the record for the fastest youth Test century by an Indian, scoring a stunning 58-ball ton against Australia in Chennai. He also played a crucial role in India's journey to the ACC U19 Asia Cup final, contributing two vital half-centuries.
