Trump Has This Marital Advice For Macron After Video Of Wife 'Shoving' Him Goes Viral
ABP Live News | May 31, 2025 1:11 PM CST

US President Donald Trump on Friday offered marital advice to French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, after a video of him and and his wife Brigitte, appearing to shove his face on the plane on a trip to Vietnam, went viral earlier this week.

"Make sure the door remains closed," Trump quipped, when asked if he had any "world leader to world leader marital advice" for Macron on the viral video.

Brushing off the incident, Trump also said the couple was "fine". "I spoke to him. He's fine. They're fine. They're two really good people. I know them very well," he added.

Trump, who was holding a joint press conference with billionaire Elon Musk in the Oval Office, said he doesn't know "what that was all about," but added "that was not good."

The incident was filmed just as the French president was about to disembark the plane after landing in Hanoi on Sunday. The video showed Brigitte Macron, 72, sticking out both her hands and giving her husband's face, in what appeared to be a shove. A startled Macron quickly recovered and turned to wave through the plane's open door.

According to an AFP report, Trump, who has long had a "bromance" with his French counterpart, stated he had been in touch with him since the incident.

On Monday, Macron denied that he was having a domestic dispute, blaming disinformation campaigns for trying to put false meaning on the footage. Macron said the incident was overblown and that the moment was a joke between him and his wife. "We were squabbling and, rather, joking," he said, adding that it was being exaggerated into "a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe."

Macron (47) met his wife Brigitte at the high school where she taught and he was a student. They have been married since 2007.
