World Tobacco Prohibition Day is celebrated every year on 31 May, so that awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco can be increased and efforts can be made to protect future generations from its health hazards. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), between 13 and 15 years of 37 million children use tobacco products worldwide. In response to this rising danger, WHO celebrates World Tobacco Prohibition Day every year to tell people about the dangers of tobacco and promote strong global efforts to control its use.

According to WHO, tobacco epidemics kills more than 8 million people every year, while the number of deaths due to Covid-19 is much more. Out of this, 7 million deaths are directly from tobacco use, while 1.3 million deaths are caused by smoke cigarettes by others. Tobacco uses are more especially in lower and middle-or-income countries, where health care systems are already under pressure. Despite this, it has not become the subject of an epidemic, Covid-19, equally serious response or immediate global prevention efforts.
